Welcome International Students!


We welcome international students to our community!  Columbia is authorized to accept international students, who wish to pursue a program of study leading to the Certificate of Achievement, Associate Degree or preparation for transfer to a four-year university.  Application deadlines are:

Semesters Begin - End Deadline
Fall August - December April 1st
Spring January - April Oct. 1st
Summer May - August Jan. 1st

To help us process your application and facilitate your enrollment, you must take the following steps:

  1. Print a copy of the International Student Application Packet Cover Sheet.  This document must be used as a cover sheet when you submit your completed application packet.
  2. Print a copy of each of the required forms.

p Evidence in US dollars of financial support showing a minimum of one year's support
p Bank guarantee
p US sponsor certification
p Official high school transcripts
p Official college transcripts
p Official TOEFL scores (minimum score 173 on the computer based test)
p Essay detailing academic goals
p Certificate of Health
p Two letters of recommendation (One must be from a teacher)
  1. Agree to provide certification of Health/Sickness/Travel insurance within 30 days of enrollment.  Failure to provide this certification will cause students to be out of status for compliance with F-1 visa standards.

Official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL) if your native language is other than English (Citizens of Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, the Philippines and New Zealand whose native language is English are exempt from taking the TOFEL).  Minimum scores of 500 on the paper-based or 173 on the computer-based test is required.

Demonstration of satisfactory ability to support.  Submit a notarized or official statement from your personal financial source/s of funding, indicating total incomes and ability to support you under any circumstances while enrolled at Columbia College.  In addition applicants are required to submit a written guarantee from the bank of your funding source/s, stating the current account balance/s in US dollars.  This information will be kept strictly confidential.

Letters of Recommendation.  As part of the assessment process, we ask for two testimonials, one from a teacher or instructor, who can attest to your ability to do college-level work.

Columbia College Physician's Certificate of Health.  This form must be completed by a licensed physician and includes an immunization clearance examination.  In addition, a chest x-ray or tuberculosis test dated within one year of admission application will become part of your permanent health record.

Sickness and accident insurance.  Proof of sickness and accident insurance is necessary if you are accepted for admission to the College.  If none is provided, you need to purchase the Columbia College International Student Medical Insurance Plan within the first month of enrollment.  Medical plans vary in type and coverage, so be sure to contact the Columbia College Business Office when you arrive.

U.S. Sponsor.  We ask that international students have an American sponsor, who resides in the U.S.  Have him/her complete the Sponsor Certification .

Official Transcripts.  Students who complete post-secondary coursework at institutions in other countries must submit an official, English-translated transcript.  Our Columbia College Foreign Student Advisor will gladly answer any questions regarding evaluation of foreign transcripts.  Upon completion of all application requirements listed above by the deadline date, each applicant for admission will be given equal consideration along with all other qualified applicants. 

If admitted, the appropriate documents will be mailed.  The required documents must be presented to the appropriate officials in order to obtain an F1 (student) visa and enter the United States.
