2007-08 season calendar for Jazz Series and Jazz Festivals
The
Columbia College Jazz Series kicks off its 29th season on Monday,
Sept. 24 with the Rachel Z trio. The
Rachel
"Z" on piano will be joined by Maeve Royce on bass and Bobbie Rae on
drums. In a number of selections, the Columbia College Big Band will back the
trio, who will also perform several pieces from their newest CD release.
Tickets
are $10 for reserved seating at the 7:30 p.m. concert in the college’s Dogwood

the month of October, the jazz series will participate in several events
including the Columbia College Foundation’s Lakeside Jazz and Wine on Saturday,
Oct. 13 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The fourth annual foundation fundraiser will
include fine wines, hors d’oeuvres, an art show and silent auction – as well as
performances by the Columbia College Big Band Jazz Ensemble, Combo #5 and the
Mario Flores Latin Jazz Band. In addition, there will be a 39-foot long cake in
anticipation of the college’s 40th anniversary in 2008. For tickets,

On
November 3 and 4, the jazz series continues with "Double the
Pleasure" with guest woodwind artists and jazz series favorites Paul
Contos and Don Shelton.
On
the weekend of December 8 and 9, the series will present "It's a Big Band
Christmas" with pianist Bob Secor and several singers.
Welcoming in 2008 will be blues vocalist
Barbara Morrison, joined by
February
8 and 9 will feature brass recording artists Mic Gillette, and Marvin McFadden
along with Contos and Secor for the annual Big Band Jazz Festival.
On
March 7 and 8, the jazz series will present the 29th Annual Vocal Jazz
Festival. The award winning jazz a cappella group "Clockwork" will be
joined by singers Morrison and
The
season finale in April will consist of the Mario Flores Sextet and the 25-piece
college big band for a "Big Band meets Latin Jazz" performance.
Season
tickets for the seven concert series are available for $75, which includes
preferred seating for all events. That represents more than a 25% discount on
